Norton 360 vs. Norton Internet Security

Recently I wrote about Norton Internet Security 2012 while it was in beta. Now we’re comparing Norton 360 and the final version of Norton Internet Security 2012.

It’s a simple fact that computers, their users and personal information all need protection these days. Between viruses, hackers and cybercriminals, people just can’t be too careful. That’s why Norton has created a number of products designed to provide the protection people need to enjoy relatively carefree online experiences. Norton 360 and Norton Internet Security 2012 are among the company’s leading products for comprehensive protection.

But, which one is better? Truthfully, the superior selection often comes down to what kind of features a particular user might need the most. Norton 360, including Norton 360 Premier Edition,  is designed to offer users a well-rounded protection and maintenance program. Norton Internet Security is meant to lock down a machine and its users’ personal information. Both products, in fact, have a number of identical features. The Norton 360 line simply takes things a few steps further.

To determine which product is best for personal use, it helps to understand the main features each offers:

What Norton Internet Security Does

Norton Internet Security is a great program that offers all the protections one would expect from an antivirus package while also offering critical online protections, as well. The features that make this program stand out beyond Norton’s famous antivirus, antispyware, antirootkit and smart firewall protections, include:

  • Automated antivirus protections – Norton does more than just scan a computer after files are downloaded. Norton Internet Security, and many other Norton products, are designed to be set and forgotten about. They run in the background providing constant protection.
  • Identity Protection – This Norton product is meant to help users safeguard their identities and their accounts. It does so by inspecting websites, storing passwords and personal information and preventing users from visiting and using phishing sites, among other features.

A Look At Norton 360

The Norton 360 product family was created to offer more than antivirus and internet security protocols. While it does provide the same basic protections as Norton Internet Security, it goes a few steps beyond. Its extra features include:

  • Backup and Restore – It doesn’t matter how careful a computer owner is; a crash or viral attack can happen. Norton 360 prepares its users for this by offering automatic backup and restore features. It also provides online storage – 2 GB for standard Norton 360 Version 5.0 users and 25 GB for Norton 360 Premier Edition owners.
  • PC Tuneup – Taking care of a PC also means running routine maintenance programs. The Norton 360 family of products handles this in addition to providing internet security and antivirus protections.

The question of which is best really comes down to what is needed. Both Norton 360 and Norton Internet Security can safeguard machines and their users from attacks. The Norton 360 family just does a little more. Norton 360 download is available through Norton online store for regular price of $79.99. But quite often the price is reduced, plus there are coupons available through Symantec Partners’ websites. Both Norton 360 and Norton Internet Security are available as Norton multi user packages for 5 and 10 users. Those are good for homes where protection is needed for 5 people, or for small business offices.
